Roundup and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL)

Roundup is a billion-dollar pesticide whose main ingredient is glyphosate, a chemical that was first patented and brought to market by The Monsanto Company in 1974. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, scientific literature began to link Roundup to a specific type of blood cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), and in 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) published a sprawling report labeling glyphosate as a carcinogen. Shortly thereafter, the first lawsuits against the company were filed. Today, tens of thousands of Roundup / NHL lawsuits are pending in courts across the country, including the Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) in the Northern District of California, St. Louis and Cole Counties in Missouri, and Philadelphia County here in Pennsylvania. Plaintiffs in these cases allege that dermal (skin) exposure to Roundup can cause or contribute to the cause of NHL and they bring failure-to-warn and design defect claims against Monsanto and Bayer. Monsanto and Bayer continue to insist that Roundup is safe, although they now sell the pesticide without glyphosate in the residential market.

Matt Leckman has been active in representing clients in the Roundup litigation since 2023. He has litigated dozens of cases in both the MDL and in state courts, and to date, he has tried three cases and settled a number of others. His extensive work in the litigation has afforded him intimate knowledge and insight relating to the evidence against Monsanto, the medical and scientific literature supporting the link between Roundup and NHL, and the companies’ defense and lobbying strategies.
